At mid-morning, total voter turnout for Democrats and Republicans in the 2012 primary election was running around 13 percent of registered Democrats and Republicans.
The Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office reported fewer than 7,000 voters had utilized one of the 69 “My Vote Center” locations before 11 a.m. Tuesday. Voters are no longer tethered to their home precinct when it comes to voting. The vote centers allow all voters to access their ballot from any location in the city.
Early and absentee voting numbers have so far dwarfed Election Day turnout, with 25,859 votes cast during early voting and 7,708 absentee ballots returned.
Spokeswoman Liz Hamm said that of the 6,688 people who have voted so far on Election Day, 2,575 were Republicans and 4,113 were Democrats. Polls close across the county and state at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
