Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s Nomination to Supreme Court

Sonia Sotomayor is nominated for Supreme Court Justice
As of today, Judiciary Committee hearings are set to open July 13 for Supreme Court Judge nominee Sonia Sotomayor.
While there is a lot of concensus on all sides that she will be confirmed, there is still a lot of discussion going on about her nomination. If you missed the broadcast of New Mexico in Focus, that first aired Friday, June 5, you can watch it again here. We welcome your comments!
We were fortunate to have had a wide-ranging panel of experts to talk about Judge Sotomayor: Margaret Montoya, of the UNM Schools of Law and Medicine, newly returned from a semester at the City University of New York as the Haywood Burns Chair in Civil Rights for the CUNY Law School; Dr. Laura Gomez, who holds a joint appointment in both the Law School and UNM’s College of Arts & Sciences in the American Studies Department; Kari Brandenburg, who is serving her third term as DistrictAttorney in the Second Judicial District; and Peter Kierst, an Attorny with Sutin, Thayer, and Browne, and also a lecturer with UNM’s Political Science Department.
There were many other topics up for discussion when Gene Grant and The Line panelists took on the issues of the day. Revisit the episode to get it all!
