It’s the start of another legislative session, but this year’s session will no doubt be one of the most important in recent history. Will lawmakers be able to work together to deal with the budget shortfall? Will the people of New Mexico e faced with tax hikes? And how might those tax hikes look? These are hugely important issues that may be decided in the next three weeks. NMiF is committed to bringing you in depth coverage of this important session. That’s one of the reasons we are partnering with the New Mexico Independent for a weekly forum with lawmakers, lobbyists and activists. The first forum happened this past Wednesday, and included Rep. Nora Espinoza and Sen. Eric Griego. The conversation ranged from taxes to domestic partnership. To watch, just click play below.
The Independent and NMiF will host these forums every Wednesday night for the next three weeks. And, the public is invited. Stay tuned for more details.
Of course, there is more to life than politics. This week we also profiles five up and coming musicians committed to continuing New Mexico’s jazz history. Here’s a special bonus performance from the guys. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears on them in the coming years!
